Jeju Myths and History Theme Park

Project Introduction

Located in Andeok-myeon, Seogwipo-si, Jeju-do, the Jeju Myths and History Theme Park is a tourism complex that brings together the myths and history of Jeju, Korea, and the world, with the aim of ushering in a new era of tourism in Jeju. Covering an area of approximately 3,985,601 m2, the Jeju Myths and History Theme Park is undergoing a systematic development, and is divided into four districts: District A, which is home to an integrated resort with the World Theme Park and accommodations; District R, which includes an Oriental resort and mythical and historical streets; District H, which includes a European resort and mythical and historical streets; and District J, where the Aerospace Museum and the Jeju Myths and History Theme Park are located.

HanmiGlobal

Due to its extensive size, it was necessary to divide the Jeju Myths and History Theme Park into four districts— J, H, A, and R—and open them sequentially. Following Phase 1 of the project (2015-2017), which involved HanmiGlobal as a specialist of project and construction management, Phase 2 is currently underway to construct commercial facilities and additional condominiums at the site of Jeju Shinhwa World, encompassing Districts A, R, and H. Phase 1, which opened in March 2018, saw the completion of accommodations with over 2,000 rooms, a theme/water park, and the Shinsegae Simon store. In Phase 2, which is scheduled to fully open in 2024, the project is looking to secure a portion of the remaining land for commercial facilities and to attract a warehouse-type large supermarket.

HanmiGlobal’s Role

In the Jeju Myths and History Theme Park development project, HanmiGlobal was responsible for establishing work systems in the early stages of the project, including the development of standard operating procedures (SOP) and support for the creation of a project management information system (PMIS). It also oversaw design management, progress management, quality management, and safety management, along with legal construction supervision from the design stage to construction and completion throughout the entire project, which was divided into multiple sections.

The integrated resort has two underground floors and five above-ground floors, featuring hotels, a casino, convention (MICE) facilities, a theme park, and resort-style accommodations. HanmiGlobal performed project management (PM) for the hotels, theme park, and resort-style condominiums in Districts A, R, and H out of the total four districts, from August 2015 to December 2017. The company provided comprehensive project management services, overseeing activities from construction to completion, encompassing infrastructure construction, architecture, auxiliary civil engineering, electricity, machinery, fire protection, landscaping, interior, and communications. Especially, HanmiGlobal conducted a broad range of PM tasks, including managing works directly commissioned by the project owner such as access control and IT systems, as well as interior works contracted to nominated subcontractors (NSCs).
